Perhaps any dish prepared not as a result of a special trip to the store, but from those products that are in the house, can be called grandmother’s. This was done back in the days when there were no supermarkets, and the vegetable garden was the main breadwinner. One of these versatile dishes is a very hearty pie stuffed with meat and vegetables. It can rightfully be called super satisfying, since the basis for the pie is not yeast dough, but potato dough. How to make potato dough?
The main ingredient for the dough is potatoes, which must first be boiled. In total, you need 300 g of root vegetables. Then:
- knead boiled and peeled vegetables with a potato grinder:
- add 50 g of butter;
- drive in an egg;
- gradually add 200 g of flour and knead into a soft dough.
Flour should only be added when the mashed potatoes have cooled..
What can be used for filling?
You can “stuff” grandma’s pie with almost any vegetables – that is, what the culinary fantasy tells you, and what is in the fridge.
One of the classic and simplest types of filling is the following set of products:
- Bell pepper;
Cut all vegetables (except tomatoes) in an amount of one piece and lightly fry in vegetable oil.
Separately fry 500 g of finely chopped chicken meat, at the end add one tomato, chopped into slices.
Remove the skin from the tomato first.
Pour the fried vegetables into a pan with meat, season with salt and pepper to taste and simmer everything together for another 2-3 minutes. Allow the filling to cool, and then put it in a colander to drain the juice.
You can use rabbit or pork instead of chicken..

We collect the cake
Put a sheet of parchment in a split form on the bottom, grease it with oil. Lay the dough and with wet hands, straighten it in shape, making high sides.
Pour the filling into the resulting basket and pour over the sauce made from two beaten eggs and half a glass of milk. Bake for 50 minutes in a preheated oven, at the end of the process, sprinkle the cake with grated cheese.
To make the pie more juicy, you can make a sauce from the juice remaining from the filling by boiling it with a little flour until it thickens and adding a little fresh basil and French mustard.
